Wrapping up 30 days of so much thanks

29 November

Have you ever noticed how green the grass is right before it rains? And even more so during the rain? That’s what I saw all day Friday. Today I’m thankful for the rain that held off every time I went outside and provided just the misty, refreshing air we needed.

We spent today prepping for Thanksgiving–cleaning, doing errands, making final touches to the menu, and then starting the cooking. Tomorrow, 10 of our closest friends will arrive to celebrate, eat, drink, and reminisce with us. I can’t wait! I’m so thankful for this time of year and all the love we have to share.

Happy Thanksgiving!

23 November

We spent a beautiful long weekend in Ulladulla at our friend’s parents’ holiday house. I’ve never stayed in a house so large and beautiful before. I’m not exaggerating whatsoever when I say that nearly every room in the house had an ocean view. Today, therefore, I’m thankful for the ocean and calm it brings to my life and to those around me.

We drove back to Sydney today. We made a few exciting stops along the way where we got to show a visiting friend kangaroos, wallabies, and wombats in the wild. We loved it, but she really did. Today, Sunday, I’m thankful for the diverse environment I live in. I learned this week that 80% of the creatures that live in Australia can only be found here. I knew it was a remarkable percentage, but I didn’t know it was quite so high. We also had a lovely time at the Sydney Wildlife Park earlier this week. The photo above is from that happy trip!

Today, Monday, was the last day that our visiting friend had in Sydney. We filled it to the brim with reminiscing, beach going, and laughter. I’m thankful that living on the other side of the world doesn’t have to change relationships. If you’re lucky and if you work at it, nothing changes.

26 November

Today was my first day back at work since last Thursday. What a worthwhile little break! I’m so thankful that my office let me take the time. I needed it.

27 November

We had quite a prestigious event after work today. I had the privilege of listening to Ms Ita Buttrose AO OBE speak frankly and favorably about the HIV sector, where I work. We presented her with an honorary life membership to our foundation and she thanked my team endlessly. It was a night of celebration and of honour. Tonight I’m grateful for not only my commitment to the non-for-profit sector but those I work with day in and day out. It’s important work we’re doing and we’re improving lives daily.

I love Thanksgiving. I love even more than my birthday. It’s, hands down, my favourite holiday. We’re having a party on Sunday and inviting 10 of our closest friends and family. I’m so excited to cook and care for our loved ones this weekend. I may not be able to be with my immediate family back in Boston, but I’m so thankful to be surrounded by these wonderful people.

Live in Wonder

A friend of mine put it best, saying:

“They are quite cute when caught thinking about the world.”

This canvas, “Live in Wonder”, started as an original photo I took in October of 2012. My focus was the fountain at first and then I spotted the boy. We were both watching the water until we suddenly saw each other.

I love the worn and aged look. This canvas is currently drying in my kitchen, waiting to move to yours.

This beautiful gift is grey scale and therefore quite versatile.

It would be perfect for a child who needs some inspiration or really for anyone who needs reminding that living in wonder is the most rewarding way to live.

Size — 4 x 6 inches (and half an inch deep).

Ink on canvas.
